Sushi Aroma - Review
Standard Sush
Got the opportunity to dine here a month ago after some of the hype for Sushi Aroma died down. Seriously all I saw was the hot Edmonton influencers raving about the quality and the value you get here. After dining here with a bestie for lunch though IDK what all the commotion is about.
Ordered the Spicy Tuna combo that had 3 pieces of maki, 2 pieces of spicy tuna battleship sushi, and 4 pieces of the same spicy tuna rolls. My friend ordered the opposite and got the salmon combo which is essentially the same. Quality wise I thought the sushi was standard and something you’d expect from any decent sushi restaurant in Edmonton. The battleship pieces I had were slightly above average in texture and flavor than some other restaurants. Other than that the tuna maki and rolls were pretty basic.
My favorite part of the meal was the Japanese pumpkin soup. It had such a rich aroma and texture. Surprising to see this as an option to have instead of regular miso soup. I love miso soup though. No miso hate here.
Reflecting on this combo I’ve eaten I’m pondering to myself if this is the value place that everyone has raved about. After doing some quick math on the items I received it actually came out to be about 80 cents more expensive to get the combo than to just order the individual pieces. That’s kinda lame and defeats the purpose of getting a combo. I didn’t get the bento but comparing the prices to other places it still falls short of many other popular sushi restaurants especially when the miso soup isn’t included. I feel like many people/influencers/5 star reviewers who have gone are just happy with having less food for less price cause this is exactly what’s happening here.
Sushi Aroma is definitely a “walk, don’t run” situation.
Sal says: Just Try It (2.6/5)
Sergio: I like the fast casual vibe with the restaurant level sushi. Seems like the amount of fish on each sushi piece is larger than typical
