Chuck’s Steakhouse - Review

Banff’s best Steak

Stopped by Chuck’s Steakhouse for some fabled cuts of steak. As many times as I’ve been in Banff and as many times I’ve walked by Chuck’s…I’ve never gone. Always opted for The Keg as a safe choice. Always need my escargot. However this time I traded in escargot for some Onion Soup and was happy I did.

This soup had all the right flavors and textures with the onions thinly sliced which gave a nice mushy texture when in the broth. Gruyeres cheese might be my favorite cheese on top of a French onion soup (despite this being called just an onion soup but wateva) but the overpowering taste of rosemary killed this soup. The entire dish came with bone marrow and crostini which gave it a nice touch.

Main course was a meat lovers dream. So it’s my dream. I dream of all the meat in me. The Taste of Alberta was basically a steak flight. Got to try out the Wagyu, Benchmark and 45-Day House Dry Age all at once. These steaks were amazing but some were better than others. The Wagyu makes the top of my list as it was so tender and fatty. Obviously not a place to count calories. The 45-Day House Dry Age had a tastier aroma to it, very unique and delicious in its own right. Benchmark wasn’t that great to me, had a subpar flavor yet was just a bit salty. I’m glad we had started on the benchmark as the steaks got progressively better. I know some people will love the benchmark but it just doesn’t compare to the other two steaks.

Although the food and service were of high quality, it definitely reflected in the price. Taste of Alberta was $159 and was definitely worth it to try especially with the two sides. The mash potatoes were bomb. The cheapest wagyu offering is $132. So this steak flight was an obvious choice.

I wish I had come here sooner in my life. It’s a great quality steak regardless despite some shortcomings. Every table has a great view of the mountains and it definitely has that steakhouse ambiance.
