Menya Itto- Review
Vancouver ragrets
Whenever I visit Vancouver, a bowl of ramen must be had. The new hot spot in town is Menya Itto, a popular ramen resto from Tokyo. I was hyped, it’s well known for their tsukemen and ramen. The day that I was there it was a Vancouver 5 degrees out, so in reality it was -10. It was frigid as fuck. Now i’m looking up from my little wooden stump at this illustrious lobster head on top of ramen. I want that. I want that now.
Before entering we had to preorder, and was told that there is no more lobster topping but lobster broth. Which is fine, gimme that broth. Our other orders were the Classic Noko Gyokai Ramen and Menya Itto Deluxe Tsukemen. The ramen had chicken broth that was creamy and thiccc. Served with thin noodles (love) and 2 slices of chicken chashu. This was the best dish out of the all we ordered, cause wow. The other ones were so terrible. The tsukemen had cold cut meat of chicken, pork belly, pork shoulder, and an egg. When I say cold cuts it tasted like frozen food. The tsukemen broth was also not impressive. My "lobster" ramen shared the same toppings as the tsukemen and let me tell ya…it was trash. Instead of lobster the substitute toppings of chicken, pork shoulder and pork belly. It reminded me of the first course of a 10 course Chinese dinner. Why is this in my extra salty lobster broth. If the lobster head not on the bowl then I suggest not even serving it. The chicken on here was just a chunk of boring and dry meat. Proteins served here were as exciting as a trip to the dentist.
The service was pure shit. I had to order my ramen 3 times. Once outside, again at the table, and again 30 minutes later when the other dishes had already been served. Is it that hard to serve all the dishes at once? How can something ordered twice be forgotten twice? Why was the experience and ramen so terrible for a restaurant so highly regarded? A tea bag for tea? $20 for ramen? I want answers and my time wasted coming here. The instagrammable tree decor ain’t saving this place.

@thejayenn says: The only thing worse than the disappointing meal was the disorganized front of house. 😌 The accompaniments were on par with deli sandwich meats. Definitely not worth the wait. Service was atrocious, from the missed order to the kitchen serving each of us 15 mins apart.
