Travel Food Tuesday - Hello Nori

Robson snack

Having been bombarded on tiktok with cuties dancing and people eating food. I’ve seen so many from Hello Nori in Vancouver. Let’s just say the aesthetic here was a cold mix of wood and concrete. Minimalistic in feel and it translated to their menu. It’s just hand rolls and that’s that.

Here at Hello Nori it’s a Japanese concept I love of just eating and GTFO. Have 4 handrolls and bye. No chit chat, no big group dining just by yourself or with one more person. I always wished to just have a ramen spot in Edmonton where I can eat alone at the bar with some barrier around me. But people look at me like I have no friends! But I do! They’re just not here right now ok?!

Anyways, some of the hand rolls we got were the toro, truffle lobster, salmon skin and ikura. All of these handrolls had lightly grilled nori, and a precise amount of rice with the use of their drug dealer scales. However, near the end of the meal some of my rolls were looking plump and I assume the rice distributor would not be too happy. That being said, there were some standouts such as the toro’s flavor, really subtle but wished the texture wasn’t mashed up tuna belly.  The salmon skin was crisped properly and had to get 2 of those. And the ikura was a sweet explosion in my mouth. Delicious.

Service here was kind of meh. I had to reorder my second salmon skin as we didn’t have a set server? Felt really unorganized. Also when my friend clearly asked for hot tea and they gave her an ice matcha, the look of disdain from the server’s eyes was not appreciated. Just strange. With that being said, this is a good place for a snack, nothing super crazy about it but it’s a place that is worthy of a stop when on Robson.

Sal says: Just Try It (3.3/5)

@jjgu says: the concept is interesting. Japanese is always delicious. but execution is flawed in sense u have to eat it within 3 seconds or nori gets soft and difficult to bite without making a mess
