TBT - London Local

Closed for Good

London Local has a good variety on their menu, but the mains fail to outshine the appetizers.

For starters we had the Scotch Egg, Buttery Chicken Liver Pate, Steak Tartare, Crispy Fried Brie, Mini Porkpie and Char Grilled Duck Drumettes. All of these apps were pretty good. Scotch egg was on point, the yolk oozed out. Liver pate was smooth, the steak tartare had some great flavor with pickled beets and fried onion. Both pate and tartare had really shitty tasting cape seed crackers, i’d avoid these if possible. Fried brie had smoked peanut brittle, thyme, honey glaze and pickled plum which made this a must buy dish for cheese lovers. Porkpie was perfectly cooked, flaky and tasty. The Duck drumettes were also impressive and had a good char. Thumbs up on these apps.

Pretty much ordered all the large plates. Bangers & Mash, had smoked mash potato and was decent. Fish and chips were ok as the quality of the fish, icelandic cod, was a good choice. Besides these 2 dishes everything else we had tasted like salt was spilled into the dish. Beef Wellington, Yorkshire Peppered Steak and Cheese Pie, and Smokey Seafood Pancake all had an insane amount of salt that all the fiji water in the world couldn’t help. Come to think of it, the only place there were no salt were the fries.

Located on 99st and ellerslie area, London Local had our hopes up after the small plates. Service was pretty lackluster and yeah, was pretty disgusted with the main dishes to never come back here again.
Sal says: Just Skip It (2/5)
@luub19 says: Too much potatoes. Salty and heavy. Go for drinks and apps, mains ndm.
@julialuuluu says: Would not go back

Review was from 2018 and this place is now closed. I remember how salty those dishes were. Glad I never went back but now i’m missing our large group dinners.
